
Building Code & Regulatory Information
Building Code Update - Effective April 1, 2026
On April 1, 2026, new energy requirements under the Nova Scotia Building Code will come into effect.
These changes apply to:
- New residential buildings not exceeding 600 sqm (6,458 sq. ft.) in building area or 3-storeys in building height
- New construction of commercial and light-industrial buildings not exceeding 300 sqm (3,229 sq. ft.) in building area or 3-storeys in building height
Applicants submitting for a Building Permit on or after April 1 must meet the updated requirements. Please review the resources below for details on compliance and submission requirements.
